The Feldenkrais Method® uses gentle movement to increase range of motion, improve flexibility and coordination between the body and mind.. It decreases pain and anxiety and creates sustainable change. We become more aware of habitual patterns that keep us from living the life we deserve and gain the ability to consciously create new patterns to live with more fun, ease and grace.
Think outside of the box and re-kindle that child-like curiosity. Our familiar way of doing things may feel instinctual to us. It’s our strongest imprint on our sensory motor system. Most of us live by “I’ve always done it this way.” As we grow up it may work for us but there is a wide range of options between an adequate life and a powerful life. With increased awareness we gain the power to recognize our habits and make different and better choices.
Moshe Feldenkrais (1904-1984) developed a series of movement explorations to help us learn to recognize our physical habits and introduce more efficient, healthy patterns. These lessons are presented in two ways. Awareness Through Movement (ATM) classes and Functional Integration (FI) lessons. Many of these lessons involve physical functions such as reaching, bending, turning and walking. Others are more subtle like breathing and becoming aware of the tension patterns we have developed.
